Editorial Policy

Kameme FM will aim to educate, inform and entertain while pursuing a spirit of creativity and the highest level of professionalism. The radio station will encourage the pursuit, respect and development of Kenyan culture, highlighting Kikuyu, Embu and Meru cultures in particular and the African culture in general. Kameme FM will promote African culture as an important part of our national heritage. The station will provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge and information and will broadcast a wide range of cultural arts, entertainment and educational programmes that reflect an important element of our Kenyan heritage.

Audience Reach

The Kikuyu speaking people account for 38% of the population of Nairobi City and 65% of the population of Greater Nairobi. The estimated population of Greater Nairobi area is 6 million people which gives Kameme 101.1 FM radio a potential audience of 3.9 million people.

In addition, Kameme 101.1 FM has a further reach of an additional 3 million people resident in Central and Eastern Provinces (Muranga, Nyeri, Embu and Meru areas).

This gives Kameme 101.1 FM a total reach of 6.9 million people resident in the country’s most agriculturally and commercially productive regions. The areas covered by Kameme 101.1 FM have a high per capita income in the country.

Target Market

Kameme 101.1 FM’s core target audience is age group 25 - 45 years male and female, in the AB, C1, socio-economic classes. They are educated and aspire to improve their quality of life.

Although relatively westernized in taste and life style, they are keenly interested in learning more about their culture and language. They are in formal or informal employment or are self-employed. They are based in the urban and semi-urban areas and are regular purchasers of fast moving consumer goods and other household products.

The secondary target audience is C2 ,D based in the rural areas in Central and Eastern Provinces.

Station Format

Kameme 101.1 FM format is a combination of Music (60%), Cultural education (30%) and Informative business/agriculture/current affairs (10%). The music format is Kikuyu secular and Christian gospel including Kiswahili gospel and English contemporary country music.

The station is presenter-driven although pre-recorded features air throughout the day.
